Why Writing on Medium Is Tough (But Why I’m Still Hopeful)

Looking back on my journey on Medium in 2024 and looking ahead to 2025

The year is drawing to a close. As 2024 comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on my journey as a writer on Medium.

In 2024, I published 15 articles, including this one, a significant drop compared to previous years.

For example, in 2023, I managed to write 22 articles on Medium.

And in 2022, I completed 27 articles.

The trend is clear, and once again it is quite clear to me: writing successful stories on Medium is brutally challenging for a normal, ordinary Singaporean like me.

I’m sure it is equally tough for most people.

Like I have shared publicly before, finding topics or themes that resonate with an international audience (or perhaps it might be more accurate to say, a more US-leaning or Western audience), researching and crafting strong pieces, and staying disciplined to write regularly on Medium are no small feats.

Add to that the pressures of daily life.

After a long day at work in the office (sometimes pulling 11 or 12 hours), speeding like a Formula One…
